Meet Our Team
Dr. Jennifer Shepherd
Dr. Jennifer Shepherd received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Dakota and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. After vet school, Dr. Shepherd completed a small animal internship at the Ontario Veterinary College. She and her husband Paul purchased the Cloquet Animal Hospital in 2007, where her husband manages the office while she takes care of the patients. Dr. Shepherd knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian when she was 5 years old after reading a book from the library called “A Day in the Life of an Animal Doctor.” She and her husband Paul have three children who keep them busy at all times. In her free time, Jennifer likes running, scrapbooking, photography, spending time with her family, and baking. She also loves playing with her Portugese Water Dog who is a bundle of hair and energy!
Dr. Christine Wickenheiser
Dr. Christine Wickenheiser received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 2002. Although she likes all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Wickenheiser especially enjoys surgery and working with pocket pets. When she is not working to improve the lives of her patients, Christine enjoys spending time outside hiking and camping with her family. She loves to scuba diving in the ocean and has taken her family sea kayaking with orca whales. In addition to her labradoodle Roscoe and two cats Firebird and Agate, Christine has a hobby farm complete with llamas, goats, and many species of ducks and geese.
Certified Veterinary Technicians
Bekah graduated from DBU in May of 2009. She is a certified vet tech and has been at Cloquet Animal Hospital since October of 2011. For fun, Bekah enjoys spending time with her husband, Justin, and her family and friends. She loves doing anything outdoors, like camping and hiking, and likes reading and drinking coffee. Bekah and Justin share their home with two dogs. Belle, a soft and affectionate German Shepherd mix, has been Bekah’s pet since high school. Sherlock is a typical beagle who likes to sniff and howl, climb under the covers, and is a couch potato. Though they don’t have any other pets, Bekah would like to have a hobby farm someday with horses, chickens, and other critters.
Ashley graduated from the veterinary technician program at Duluth Business University in 2014. She completed her internship at Cloquet Animal Hospital and upon graduating, officially joined our team as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). Ashley enjoys biking, hiking, skiing, and being in the outdoors with her family. She and her significant other Thomas have two daughters, Gabriella and Adaya. The girls love every animal they see just like their mom. Together they like to raise monarch butterflies from caterpillars and frogs from eggs. Ashley has a cat named Digits who was rescued in 2011 when she was only two weeks old. Since Digits did not have a cat mom, she can be a feisty panther at times, but they still love her. Ashley also has a dog appropriately named Dart who is an Alaskan Klee Kai and he fits into their high energy home perfectly.
Lydia earned her Applied Associates in Veterinary Medicine from Duluth Business University in 2012. She joined the team at Cloquet Animal Hospital as a full time Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in March 2018. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a love for anesthesia and dentistry. In her spare time, she enjoys camping with her husband and relaxing at the family cabin. Her non-human family includes an adorable chocolate lab named Windzor Dale and a few naughty cats named Bobby-Sox, Chalupa Batman, and LIttle Sebastian.
Mary Lou has been working at CAH since March of 2007. She is currently enrolled at Penn Foster for medical billing and coding. Outside of work, Mary Lou enjoys 4-wheeling, camping, playing pool and reading. May Lou and her husband share their home with 4 pets: An 8 ½ year old Lab named Tank (once a perfectly good hunting dog, now a great couch potato), a 9 year old brindle Boxer named Lennox, a Red Ear Slider Turtle named Trevor, and their newest bundle of joy, a handsome tuxedo cat named Seriously.
Gretchen joined our team as a receptionist in 2017. She loves all the animals that come through the door at Cloquet Animal Hospital. We often find her snuggling all the adorable puppies and kittens and she has become our resident pet photographer. Gretchen enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her daughter at basketball and soccer games, gardening, and hiking with her dog Hazel. She also loves to travel and has visited many exciting places including Japan, Costa Rico, and Nova Scotia.
Clinic Cat Mushu
Meet Mushu, Cloquet Animal Hospital’s cat. Mushu moved into Cloquet Animal Hospital in the fall of 2017. While Mushu’s main job is a greeter for clients at Cloquet Animal Hospital, he is also the resident trouble-maker. We often find him knocking over garbage cans, stealing muffins, and hiding in strange places. He keeps the mood light around Cloquet Animal Hospital and will cheer us up when we are having a bad day. Make sure you give him a quick pat on the head next time you come to Cloquet Animal Hospital.
Jen graduated from Duluth Business University in 2013 after completing the Veterinary Technology Program and she has been working as a veterinary technician since. Jen joined the team at Cloquet Animal Hospital in March 2018. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing, relaxing at her cabin, and playing with her rescue pup, Stella. Stella is an 8 year old husky mix who loves a good squeaker toy, lounging outside, and "chasing" (aka watching) the squirrels toy with her from one tree to the next.
