July 2000 – June 17, 2016
On Friday, June 17th we said goodbye to our beloved Chloe.
Chloe was born in Guelph, Ontario in July 2000. She came in to the Ontario Veterinary Hospital in September 2000, a little stray kitten who had been hit by a car. Although her wounds were large, they were not severe and she quickly recovered, with only a few small scars. She was adopted by Dr. Jennifer Shepherd, an intern at the hospital at the time. Her original name was “Lady Bug” but Jennifer felt she deserved a name that fit her sweet and spunky personality better so name was changed to Chloe, after a character from the book “Left Behind” who had that same spunky but lovable personality.
Chloe followed Jennifer and her growing family for many years and four moves, finally settled in Cloquet, MN in 2007. Shortly after arriving in
Cloquet, the Shepherd family learned their daughter was severely allergic to cats. They did not want to part with their beloved Chloe so she moved in to Cloquet Animal Hospital, where they could still see her every day. It was at Cloquet Animal Hospital that Chloe really began to bloom. She became an author writing Chloe’s Corner, a blog on the clinic’s website. She also helped give tours to many groups of enthusiastic children, demonstrated to clients how to give
medications, trained new employees on how to perform various procedures such as dental cleanings, blood draws, and taking x-rays, and was a taste tester for many new treats. Chloe was also a life saver –
she donated a blood and saved the lives of some very sick cats.
Chloe was preceded in death by her adopted sister, a walker hound named Annie and her best friend, a chinchilla named Peppy. She is survived by her first family, the Shepherds, and her second family, the
team at Cloquet Animal Hospital. Chloe’s death leaves a hole in the hearts of many of us at Cloquet Animal Hospital. She will be missed by many.
Rest in peace sweet and spunky Chloe, and thank you for all your hard work at Cloquet Animal Hospital. You will never be forgotten!
