Pet of the Month - In the Limelight! at Cloquet Animal Hospital

Macey is an English Setter that came to see us on July 30^th. Maceys’ owners were visiting from Colorado, but during their stay in Minnesota, Macey was hit by a truck. She came to us with serious injuries, including a broken leg and broken bones in her face. We got her stabilized and gave her pain medications to make her more comfortable. Even with all the pain she was in, she was very calm and she had a very sweet disposition. The owners were faced with two decisions; wait until Monday to have surgery done in Minneapolis, or drive her home to Colorado and have surgery done there.  After thinking it over, they decided to take her home to Colorado.  They drove through the night, getting to Colorado at 10am on Saturday, and took her straight to the emergency clinic. The surgeon there wasn’t going to be able to perform the surgeries until Monday, and the cost was very steep for everything that needed to be done. The owners were concerned about her quality of life after the surgery. They doubted that her chances of living free to run at her usual capacity were ever going to be the same. They made the agonizing choice to have her euthanized.  We didn’t know Macey for very long, but the staff here at CAH were all looking out for her during her stay, and talked about her after she left.  We are very sad about what happened, but we know she is in a better place now. Goodbye Macey.
